The statement, “You don’t choose the time, it chooses you”, gives us an idea about what are we going to discuss in this article. Isn’t it?
Whenever we come across any opportunity in our lives, the first thought that clouds our minds is self-doubt. Certainly, it happened to me quite a few times, and I’m sure it happened to you as well.
Not only do we think we’re not good but we also convince ourselves enough to not give it a try. Consequently, we pass on the opportunity only to regret it later.
In this blog post, I want to share a short and inspiring story from the book – A Promised Land. It’s a memoir by Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States.
The Story
When Barack Obama was contemplating whether he should run for president of the United States, he went to a few close friends for advice. Ted Kennedy was one of them.
This short story is about what Ted said to Obama. He said:
The power to inspire is rare. Moments like this are rare. You think you may not be ready, that you’ll do it at a more convenient time. But you don’t choose the time. Time chooses you. Either you seize what may turn out the only chance you have, or you decide you’re willing to live with the knowledge that the chance has passed you by.
Aren’t these lines powerful and motivating? Undoubtedly, Ted’s words helped Obama to make up his mind. And, the rest is history.
Conclusion
When I read this story, I also thought to do something I’ve been wanting to do for the last couple of years – setting up my new blog, this blog. To be honest, I did need more similar doses of motivation before I finally started my blog. However, this helped me for sure.
I hope you liked this story and found it inspiring as I did. If, by any chance, this story brought back something in your mind that you want to achieve, now is the time. Go for it!
Finally, do comment and share your thoughts and stories about similar experiences you had in your life.
